Dinos to honour seniors in regular-season finale

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's rugby team will face off against the University of Alberta Pandas on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The game will take place at the University of Calgary's Field 7.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Last Game – In the previous matchup between the Dinos and Pandas, Calgary brought home the win, 20-0. The game took place in Edmonton at Foote Field and was just the second game of the season. The Dinos scored four tries – all by different players – but were unsuccessful in completing their converts on a windy day up north.

2. Series History – The Dinos have had the Pandas number of late. In addition to winning the first of the head-to-heads earlier this season, Calgary has claimed the last 12 contests overall. In fact, over that span, the Dinos posted a combined score of 319-149, including pitching shutouts in each of the past two Battles of Alberta.

3. Regular Season Finale – Saturday's game will be the final regular season game that both teams will play this year. Calgary currently sits at 2-3, while the Pandas are 1-4 on the year, with their 22-20 win over Lethbridge coming back on Sept. 10 in Alberta's season opener.

4. Playoff Picture – Between the five teams in Canada West women's rugby, the Dinos currently sit tied for third overall with 11 points. The Pandas enter the weekend in fifth with six points, but automatically earn a playoff berth as they're hosting this year's conference playoffs. The Semifinals will take place on October 20, with the gold and bronze-medal matches set for Oct. 23.

5. Women's World Cup – A pair of former Dinos are currently in New Zealand competing with Team Canada at the 2022 Women's Rugby World Cup. DaLeaka Menin (2013-17) and Emily Tuttosi (2013-17) are both currently overseas with their home country, starting off this year's tournament with an emphatic 41-5 win over Japan. In that contest, Tuttosi scored three tries and was named the player of the match.
