CALGARY – For the second night in a row, the University of Calgary Dinos and Mount Royal University Cougars played to a draw.
On Saturday night at Dinosaur Field, neither team could find the back of the net in a 0-0 score, as they both earned a point from the tightly contested affair. After more than 600 fans circled the sidelines on Friday, supporters were out in full force again but never had the chance to erupt as they did the night before.
Mohamed El gandour showed to be one of the most dangerous players on the pitch and displayed his impressive footwork with scoring chances in the first half. The Dinos did not let him get off easy, with the memory of his Friday goal off a penalty still fresh in their minds.
The Dinos were forced to play down a man for more than half the game after
Gabriel Craiovan was shown his second yellow card of the evening in the 40th minute. Despite the disadvantage, Calgary did not concede many chances and forced Mount Royal into quick decision-making with an opening never coming for them to score.
Right until the final minute, goalkeepers on both ends of the field were on high alert to protect their nets. All-Canadian
Jake Ruschkowski made five saves for the Dinos, while Bilaal Hassan turned away the only shot he faced. Calgary outshot Mount Royal 6-5.
The Dinos come out of their first weekend of conference action with a 0-0-2 record and will prepare now to play the Lethbridge Pronghorns in a home-and-home set next weekend. The Cougars now sit at 1-0-2 and will play home and road games against the Alberta Golden Bears, Oct. 2-3.
