Lang's hatty leads Dinos past Cougars

CALGARY – A natural hat trick in the first nine minutes by Elizabeth Lang helped the University of Calgary Dinos break a five-game losing skid and defeat the University of Regina Cougars 4-1 at Father David Bauer Arena.

A conference all-star in 2020, Lang broke out of a goal-scoring drought in a big way and was dangerous throughout the afternoon. Her three goals on Saturday now give her six on the season and a share of the Canada West lead in that category.

The Dinos improve to 4-8-0 on the season, while the Cougars fall 4-6-0 as they both wrap up the unofficial first half.

Lang's first goal came less than three minutes into the game as her shot was stopped by Regina goaltender Arden Kliewer, but not before it had crossed the line. Her second and third markers came off rebounds less than a minute apart mid-way through the opening frame.

The lone goal by the Cougars was scored with nine minutes left in the first period as Adela Juzkova found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Alli Borrow rounded out the scoring with her fifth goal of the campaign in the opening minutes of the third period.

Calgary's Gabriella Durante was superb for a second consecutive night, finishing with 31 saves, while Kliewer stopped 31 shots of her own at the other end.

The Dinos return from the winter break on Jan. 14 when they open a two-game set on the road against the Trinity Western Spartans. The Cougars return to play on the same date, matching up against the rival Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.
