CALGARY – Six different players found the scoresheet for the University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team as they toppled the visiting MacEwan University Griffins 6-3 at the Father David Bauer Arena.
Both the Dinos and Griffins came into Saturday night after allowing seven goals the night before. It was Calgary who was able to recover and finish the weekend with two points.
"We weren't happy with our compete level, so that was the main focus going into today," noted
Connor Gutenberg.
The Dinos balanced their offensive performance, with
Connor Gutenberg (2a) and
Josh Rieger (1g, 1a) the only players to register multi-point nights. In addition to Rieger, Calgary also received goals from
Jaeger White,
Noah King,
Arjun Atwal,
Riley Stotts, and
Ryan Graham.
Cameron Reagan found the back of the net twice for MacEwan, while Sean Comrie scored his first of the season to make it a two-goal game late. An empty netter by Graham secured the win for the Dinos.
Calgary outshot MacEwan 49-30. James Porter finished the night with 43 saves, while
Tyler Gutenberg stopped 27 attempts.
The Dinos will face the Saskatchewan Huskies at home next weekend, opening the two-game set on Friday, Nov. 19. The Griffins return home and will have a week off before they battle the Trinity Western Spartans, Nov. 26-27.
