Tsuut'ina Nation, Alta. – Goaltender
Gabriella Durante made 34 saves as the University of Calgary Dinos shutout the Mount Royal University Cougars 1-0 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex.
On Friday night at Father David Bauer Arena, Durante and the Dinos were overwhelmed by the Cougars' attack, as they chased the Calgary starting goaltender from the crease after allowing five goals. On this night, Durante was the difference maker for the Dinos, especially in the first period where she stopped 16 shots.
In the second period, the Dinos had the edge offensively, applying pressure to the Cougars with 10 shots on goal and put Mount Royal goaltender Kaitlyn Ross to the test.
The game remained scoreless entering the third period where the Dinos scored the only goal of the evening mid-way through the stanza. While on the power play,
Elizabeth Lang took a wrist shot from the left point and hit the pads of Ross. The rebound landed in front of
Holly Reuther who buried her fourth goal of the season.
The shutout was Durante's first as a Dino, while Ross finished with 18 saves on 19 attempts.
The Dinos and Cougars both hit the road next weekend for a pair of games in Edmonton against the Alberta Pandas and MacEwan Griffins, beginning on Nov. 5. Catch the game on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
