Dinos look to rebound in Crowchild Classic series

| By:
CALGARY – Undefeated no more, the University of Calgary Dinos men's basketball team looks to head into the playoffs on a positive note as they wrap up the regular season with a home-and-home series against the Mount Royal Cougars.

The series opens Thursday night in the Jack Simpson Gym, with tip-off set for 8 p.m., before wrapping up Saturday night at Mount Royal's Kenyon Court.

HEARTBREAK AT THE JACK
The Dinos win streak came to an end last week as the hot-shooting Alberta Golden Bears took down the Dinos in a home-and-home showdown to determine first place. After winning 49 consecutive conference and playoff games in Canada West, the Dinos fell short against the Bears, even with a the comeback, 70-69 and 103-87.

PLAYOFFS ON THE HORIZON
The Dinos fell behind Alberta in the standings and the RPI with their results last weekend, and will need two wins over Mount Royal this weekend to clinch the second seed and home court.

LAYTON FACES FORMER TEAM
Conference MVP candidate Brett Layton will again face his former team as the Dinos take on the Cougars. Layton played for Mount Royal from 2015 to 2017 and looks to wrap up a historic season in the home-and-home. The fourth-year law student is just two offensive rebounds away from tying the single-season Canada West record of 101, and he enters the final two games averaging 14.4 rebounds per outing – which would beat the single-season average record currently sitting at 13.3.

PACK THE JACK
With this year's Pack the Jack game poised to bring a full house to Jack Simpson Gym, The Dinos look to maintain their win streak against the neighboring Cougars to the south. Having won 11 straight games against the Cougars, with their last loss coming in the 2013-14 season, the Dinos have history on their side as they look to close out the season on a high note.
