VANCOUVER – The University of Calgary Dinos earned a second-straight fifth-place finish at the Canada West Women's Rugby 7s series after a pair of wins on Sunday.
The Dinos opened the second day of competition in Vancouver with a 52-0 win over the Fraser Valley Cascades. In the fifth-place match, Calgary defeated the Trinity Western Spartans 33-7.
The championship final pitted the Victoria Vikes in a rematch against the UBC Thunderbirds, who they defeated 14-12 on Saturday. The game on Sunday wasn't as close as two early scores gave the Vikes a lead they would not relinquish in a 19-7 result.
The Alberta Pandas claimed a third-place finish, defeating the Lethbridge Pronghorns in the bronze medal game.
The eight teams are back in action on February 29 and March 1, as the University of Victoria plays host to the final leg of the Canada West Women's Rugby 7s series.
The Vikes, with a maximum 30 points, leads Alberta in the series standings by eight heading into the final weekend of play. UBC is third with 20 points, while Lethbridge is two back with 18, followed by Calgary (12), Trinity Western (8), Fraser Valley (4) and UBC Okanagan (2).
