Chance to regroup against Golden Bears

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos will look to put last weekend behind them and move on as they face the first-place Alberta Golden Bears in a home-and-home series this weekend.

The first game will take place on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton before returning home for game two of the series on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. in the Father David Bauer Arena.

SCORING DROUGHT
The Dinos went without a goal all last weekend, despite tallying 35 shots per game against the Saskatchewan Huskies they were not able to convert. Calgary ranks fourth in the conference with 75 goals scored.

BATTLE OF ALBERTA
The Golden Bears have always been a tough opponent and fares better head to head. The Dinos are 2-8 against Alberta in the last eight games. Ryan Graham leads Calgary with two goals against Alberta this season, while Kaden Elder and Dallas Hines have also found the back of the net against the No. 1-ranked team.

STANDINGS
Last weekend's losses made it three in a row for the Dinos. Prior to that, the top three teams of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Calgary were in a tight race with only four points separating them. Currently there are eight points separating these teams, with Calgary sitting in third place with 30 points, while Mount Royal is catching up to them and is only two points behind.

NOTES
  • Scoring has not been an issue of late for the Golden Bears, as they scored 10 goals in last Saturday's game, the first time they've scored 10 goals since 2015.
  • Alberta is 9-1 in their last 10 games.
  • The Dinos last victory against the Golden Bears was earlier this season on Sept. 20, 2019, defeating them 4-3.

UP NEXT
Following this weekend's matchup against Alberta, the Dinos will face off against their cross-town rivals, the Mount Royal Cougars, for the annual Crowchild Classic on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome, with the rematch on the Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. back at Father David Bauer Arena.
