EDMONTON – The University of Calgary Dinos won a pair of games on Sunday to earn a fifth-place finish at the  season-opening tournament for Canada West women's rugby.
The Dinos opened the day in the consolation semifinal against the UBC Okanagan Heat where they picked up a 44-0 win. They followed that up with another victory in the fifth-place match, beating the Trinity Western Spartans for the second time in as many days 38-5.
The Victoria Vikes won the University of Alberta Tournament with a 24-10 win over the host Alberta Pandas in the tournament final at Foote Field.
The Vikes scored three tries in the first half, before adding a fourth in the second, en route to the 14-point win. Victoria finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, winning the season-opening tournament in Edmonton for the third time in four years.
Victoria advanced to Sunday afternoon's final after an incredibly tight 10-7 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns. The Pandas upset the previously undefeated UBC Thunderbirds 22-10 in the semifinal, before losing for the second time to Victoria this weekend in the final.
After losing to UBC 17-14 on Saturday, Lethbridge exacted some revenge in the third place match, knocking off the Thunderbirds with a 15-12 win. The Pronghorns scored a try with just 2:15 left, holding off the final T-Birds surge.
Fraser Valley placed 7th with a 32-7 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat.

The Rugby 7s season will continue in two weeks, with the UBC Thunderbirds hosting the second tournament in Vancouver.
