Dangerfield's tally extends streak to 21

KELOWNA, B.C. – Taylor Dangerfield's 55th-minute goal stood up Sunday on a windy Nonis Sportsfield in Kelowna as the No. 6 University of Calgary Dinos picked up a 1-0 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat.

The victory improves the Dinos' record to 6-0-2 on the 2019 season, extending their remarkable streak to 21 consecutive Canada West matches without a loss.

After an evenly played first half, the Dinos were able to use corners to pull the momentum in their favour, using set pieces at the forefront of their offensive attack.

Solid defense from both sides led to a scoreless first half.

With the wind at their backs, the Dinos were able to secure seven corners in the first 19 minutes of the second half.

In the 51st minute a corner from Amy Mikuska found Breanne Gallagher as she was able to head it to the back of the net. However the goal would be called back on a foul by Gallgher as she went up for the header.

Minutes later, Taylor Dangerfield received a corner from Mikuska and headed it into the back of the net. The third corner early in the second half would prove to be the game's first goal as the Dinos took a (1-0) lead.

The Heat pushed for a tie late with a pair of free kicks inside the Dinos zone but neither led to a solid scoring chance.

In the 84th minute, Allison Candelario played a ball into the box which Anastazia Ziros would find. Her shot was blocked and the Dinos were able to keep the Heat off the scoreboard.

The Heat return this Friday to play the Victoria Vikes at 5:30 p.m. PT on Nonis Sports Field.

The Dinos will return to Calgary to play UFV on Friday at 4 p.m. MT.
