Dinos roll to shutout win over Regina

REGINA – The University of Calgary Dinos remained undefeated in conference play after registering a 4-0 road win over the Regina Cougars at the U of R Field on Saturday afternoon.

Canada West goals leader Montana Leonard scored twice for Calgary in the first half, while Taylor Dangerfield and Amy Mikuska also scored for the No. 7-ranked Dinos. Lauren Houghton earned the clean sheet in the victory.

Dangerfield's goal came early in the contest. Calgary (2-0-1) was awarded a free kick to the left of Regina's net in the fifth minute, which Amy Mikuska deposited smartly into the box. After a brief tussle, Dangerfield knocked in the loose ball for her first of the year.

Then Leonard took over, first scoring in the 14th minute after chipping in a Kelsie MacDonald pass and then connecting again in the 39th minute after a through ball from Kelsey Ellis found her wide open in the right side of the box. Mikuska ended any hope of a comeback by the home side in the 52nd minute after picking the top corner on a well-placed shot from 40 yards out. Houghton made two saves to secure the shutout for Calgary, which attempted 23 shots to Regina's seven during the match. The Dinos also enjoyed a 12-2 advantage in shots on net.

Both teams return to the pitch on Sunday. Calgary continues its two-match road swing at Saskatchewan, while the Cougars are back at the U of R Field (3:00 PM) to face a UNBC team that's now 2-1-0 on the season after a Saturday setback to the Huskies.
