KELOWNA, B.C. – A 22-0 run to open the second quarter led the University of Calgary Dinos past UBC Okanagan to a 91-44 victory Saturday night, improving the second-ranked team in the nation to 8-0 heading into the December break.
Calgary finished with four players in double-digit scoring and shot 52 per cent as a team.
The hosts would havd 25 turnovers in the match, leading to 37 Calgary points. UBCO's seventh straight loss drops their record to (1-9) on their campaign. Calgary stays undefeated on the season and improves to (8-0).
The Heat would find themselves on top after the first quarter, (11-10) as they outrebounded the Dinos (13-7) in the frame. All 10 of the visitors' points in the quarter would come inside the paint.
It would be a short-lived lead, as Calgary opened the second stanza on a (22-0) run. Feeding off
Bobbi-Jo Colburn's 12 points in the half, part of her team-high 21, the Dinos carried a (37-20) lead into the break.
Liene Stalidzane dropped nine of her 16 points in the third frame as Calgary pushed their lead to 28.
The Dinos would put the game in cruise control in the fourth, outscoring the home side 30-10.
Erin McIntosh put up 10 of her season-high 15 points in the frame.
Fifth-year forward Jordan Korol was the game's highest scorer with 19, adding five rebounds for the Heat. Alessia Brutto put up a career-best eight points, also contributing seven rebounds and four assists in the loss.
Canada West action will cease for the remainder of 2019. The Heat are next in action on Jan. 4 as they make their way to the Island to take on the Victoria Vikes at 6 p.m. PST. Calgary will return home and await a matchup with UNBC to start 2020, with a two-game set Jan. 3-4 in the Jack Simpson Gym.
