Meier, Wood tally to lift Dinos past Cougars

REGINA - Annaliese Meier and Dana Wood scored for the Dinos to give Calgary a 2-1 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday evening in a women's hockey game at The Co-operators Centre.

Gabrielle Durante made 25 saves to help the Dinos improve to 9-4-1-1 on the season, while Jane Kish made 21 saves for the Cougars who fall to 3-9-3-0.

Meier opened up the scoring with a goal at the 12:25 mark in the first period. Chelsea Court sprung the puck out to Brooke Dennett along the boards in the Dinos' zone. Dennett proceeded to bring the puck into the Cougars' zone and fire a wrist shot on net; the rebound bounced out to Meier, who popped it into the back of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Jordan Kulbida responded with a goal for the Cougars. A Dinos defender tried to dump the puck but hit Kulbida, giving her a breakaway, where she took a quick wrist shot beating Durante glove side.

Wood's game-winning power-play goal came at the 12:37 mark in the second period. The Cougars won a faceoff in their zone and attempted to clear the puck but hit Wood, who proceeded to take a wrist shot on net scoring on the screened goaltender.

The Cougars played aggressively in the third period and had opportunities, but were unable to beat Durante.

Regina and Calgary will battle again on Saturday afternoon at The Co-operators Centre, with puck drop at 2 p.m. MT.
