WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Bisons finally made a blemish on the No. 6 Calgary Dinos record Saturday afternoon at the Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg after forward Devon Skoleski scored his second goal of the game in double overtime to give his Manitoba squad the victory.
It was the Herd's captain Adam Henry who scored to tie the game at 3-3 with six minutes remaining in the third to force overtime before assisting on Skoleski's game-winner in extra time.
Despite being outshot 49-12 in the game, Manitoba earned their third victory of the season thanks in large part to the play of goaltender Riley Lamb.
Second-year Bison forward Keaton Jameson got the scoring started in the game when he potted his first of the year to give Manitoba the 1-0 lead.
The visitors tied the game up at 1-1 early in the second frame when Canada West points leader
Matt Alfaro scored his sixth goal of the season. Just past the midway mark of the second, the Dinos took the lead with a power play goal coming off the stick of fifth-year
Graham Black.
On the dying seconds of a power play in the third, Bison forward Skoleski picked up a rebound and put it home to tie the game up at 2-2. However, a few minutes later the Dinos took back the lead on a goal from Captain
Logan Fisher. Manitoba, now down 3-2, a give-and-go between Henry and Dylan Thiessen ends up in the back of the Calgary net after being tipped in by Henry with six minutes to play. Tied at 3-3, the two teams were off to overtime.
It was Henry again feeding Skoleski for the game-winning goal in the second period of overtime to clinch the victory for the hosts.
The Dinos are on the road next weekend to play Saskatchewan, while Manitoba welcomes UBC.
