CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's volleyball team prepares for another weekend doubleheader of games at home against the University of Alberta Pandas. The first game begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 4 p.m. game on Saturday at the Jack Simpson Gym.
LAST WEEK
The No. 2-ranked Dinos hold a 14-2 record after defeating the Winnipeg Wesmen. In their first pair of games at home after three weeks, the Dinos picked up 3-0 and 3-1 victories over the Wesmen last weekend, solidifying their hold on second place in Canada West.
PEXMAN IS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kate Pexman keeps on stacking her stats line. The reigning Canada West player of the year gathered 27 kills in the past two games and is ranked as number five in the Calgary West leaderboard in kills per set with 3.63. Her efforts against Winnipeg, including the second contest where she earned an incredible .600 hitting percentage, earned her Dinos female athlete of the week honours.
BATTLE OF ALBERTA
The Dinos and the Pandas will battle it out once more this season after meeting twice in non-conference play. Both those games were held in Edmonton, with the Dinos winning 3-0 in September and 3-1 over the December break. The teams last met in a meaningful contest last March, with Calgary sweeping the Pandas two games to none (3-2, 3-1) in their best-of-three Canada West semifinal series, with the Dinos going on to win the conference title.
