Dinos look to break cold streak versus Griffins

CALGARY – The No. 10 University of Calgary Dinos continue their five-game homestand this weekend at the Jack Simpson Gym, welcoming the MacEwan Griffins for a pair of crucial matinee matches.

Date: Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10
Time: 12:30 p.m. MT Friday and 1:30 p.m. MT Saturday

HEADLINES
  • The Dinos are looking to end a six-game losing skid which has seen them fall to .500 after a strong start to the regular season.
  • MacEwan has just a 2-18 record this season, including a 1-10 mark away from home, but did manage to pick up a win two weeks ago versus the Regina Cougars.
  • The Dinos will host over 1000 middle school and junior high students for their School Day game on Friday afternoon before celebrating the careers of seniors Brett Bolin, Alex Bader, and Calvin Siebert on Saturday.

No. 10 CALGARY DINOS (10-10)
  • The Jack Simpson Gym has been kind to the Dinos this season, with the men's volleyball team picking up nine wins in 16 games on home court.
  • Alex Bader remains one of the most consistent players in the conference offensively with a hitting percentage of .305 – third-best in the conference.
  • Calgary swept the Griffins during a non-conference matchup at the University of Alberta on Sept. 22.
  • The Dinos will close out the regular season next weekend in Calgary with a home-and-home set versus the Mount Royal Cougars.

MACEWAN GRIFFINS (2-18)
  • The Griffins' two wins this year have come against the Regina Cougars and Manitoba Bisons.
  • This is MacEwan's first visit to the Jack Simpson Gym since Jan. 22-23, 2016 when they dropped scores of 3-0 and 3-1 to the Dinos.
  • Fourth-year outside hitter Kai Hesthammer ranks fifth in the conference with 153 digs.
