CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos women's volleyball team is back at home this weekend where they will look beat the Saskatchewan Huskies and remain tied atop the Canada West standings.
Game time on Friday is 6 p.m., followed by an earlier 4 p.m. start time on Saturday.
Calgary is currently towing a 6-2 record. After dropping a weekend set at UBC, the Dinos managed to rebound and succeeded in sweeping the Winnipeg Wesmen. Last Friday night,
Beth Vinnell had 19 kills with a hitting percentage of .654, while fifth-year outside hitter
Laura McManes added 13 kills with 13 digs. On Saturday, Calgary finished off the weekend with a 3-1 victory, where McManes managed another 15 kills, while
Amber Adolf succeeded 12. The game closed with Calgary tallying 55 digs and eight aces.
For the season, Calgary currently stands at 2-0 at home and 4-2 away, noting a .750 for the conference. The team averages 11.56 kills per set, 2.78 blocks per set, and 13.89 digs per set. In overall conference rankings, Kennedy Snape shines for Calgary, standing at second in the division for digs per set, marking an impressive 4.26. Vinnell and
Jaylynn Moffatt also astound, ranking second and seventh respectively in average blocks per set.
Coming off a bye last weekend, the Huskies (3-3) were last in action – like the Dinos – against the Wesmen. For the season, Saskatchewan averages 11.77 kills per set and a .500. Leading the Huskies in service aces is Mackenzie Pek, who also ranks fourth overall. Ruby Stefan and Taylor Annala have contributed 55 and 44 kills respectively, while Carissa Noble paced the competition with 47 kills and a .316.
