MacDonald's late hat trick ends six-point weekend

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Kelsie MacDonald scored a natural hat trick - giving her five goals on the weekend - as the University of Calgary Dinos wrapped up a six-point sweep of the B.C. Interior with a 4-0 win over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack Sunday afternoon.

The Dinos were led by the trio of MacDonald, Maddison Fritze and Montana Leonard.  MacDonald had three goals, Fritze had a goal and three assists.
Lauren Houghton had very little work in earning her fifth shutout of the year.

Calgary dominated the contest from start to finish but finally broke through in the 65th minute when Fritze scored her second of the weekend. MacDonald followed up with tallies on 74', 83', and 90' to wrap up the win. In total, the MacDonald-Fritze combination accounted for all seven of the Dinos' goals on the two-game swing.

"The second half was a little more dynamic going forward," said Dinos Head Coach Troye Flannery. "I liked that third goal a lot. It was a combination of skill and making the right decisions. Certainly not selfish by any means. It was a great goal. Likely the best goal of the year for us to date."

The Dinos sit two points up on the Saskatchewan Huskies heading into the final week of the regular season, when they will host the Alberta Pandas and Mount Royal Cougars at the West Varsity Pitch, looking to clinch home field advantage in the Canada West playoffs - a feat they'll accomplish with four or more points on the weekend.

Kickoff against the MRU Cougars goes Saturday at noon, with Sunday's contest against Alberta also set to get underway at noon.
