Forsberg 'trick does in Dinos

SASKATOON – The University of Calgary Dinos dropped their second straight game to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday night, losing 8-2 at Rutherford Rink.

After an unsuccessful weekend opener, the Dinos looked to regroup and split the weekend series against the number one team in Canada West. The Huskies were more than up to the task of defending their top spot as they controlled the game from start to finish.

Jesse Forsberg opened up the scoring 8:17 into the opening frame, sending a wrist shot past Matthew Greenfield on the power play from just inside the blue line. The Huskies added a second goal at the 15:19 mark of the period when Andrew Johnson found Kohl Bauml in the low slot whose shot went off the post and in. Forsberg scored his second power play marker of the first with 13 seconds left, a seeing eye shot from the blue line that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.

Matthew Greenfield's night was over after that, as Coleman Vollrath took over between the pipes for the Dinos to start off the second period.

The Huskies continued their assault on the Dinos, with Michael Sofillas scoring on the first shot of the period, beating Vollrath on the blocker side 49 seconds into the frame. Just over a minute later they added another, this time Jordan Tkatch getting a partial breakaway and sniping the top corner to stretch the lead to five.

Saskatchewan potted their third goal of the period at the 5:20 mark, with Logan McVeigh banking a shot of Vollrath from a bad angle on the powerplay. The Huskies added another before the frame was over, stretching their lead to a touchdown heading into the third.

Jesse Forsberg finished off his hat trick with another long shot from the blue line at the 8:54 mark of the third period.

The Dinos avoided being shut out in back to back games when Cain Franson was finally able to solve Huskie goalie Jordon Cooke, finishing off a nice centering pass from Luke Harrison, 10:15 into the third.

Calgary added another goal as Brayden Sherbinin deflected a Harrison shot past Cooke with just over six minutes left in the frame.

With the loss the Dinos fall to 12-7-1-0 on the season, while the top-ranked Huskies improve to 15-3-1-1. Calgary will look to regroup next weekend against their provincial rivals U of A, with a home and home series starting Friday night at Father David Bauer Arena. Puck drop is at 7 pm.
