Six more medals for Dinos on Day 2

| By:
QUEBEC CITY – The University of Calgary Dinos swim team picked up six more medals on Saturday at the CIS swimming championships hosted by Laval University.

It was a day of déjà vu for many University of Calgary swimmers, as the team reclaimed a handful of the medals they won at the 2015 CIS championships.

Bradley Crocker picked up the Dinos' first medal on Saturday. He earned the silver in the men's 100m backstroke with a time of 55.98 seconds. Although Crocker failed to defend his gold medal from last year, the fourth-year kinesiology major beat his 2015 time by almost an entire second. With three swimmers, the Dinos were well-represented in the A-final. Josh Dow earned fourth place and Christopher Courtis took sixth.

The Dinos' second medal of the day came from Tristan Cote, who reclaimed his second-place finish from last year in the men's 400m freestyle. Cote bettered his 2015 time by two seconds, touching the wall at 3:55.50. Like last year, the University of British Columbia's Keegan Zanatta won the event, this time finishing in 3:53.36. Chistopher Neave also swam for Calgary in the 400m free and finished in 10th with a time of 4:12.02.

Tianna Rissling continued her strong showing at this year's championships, again earning the Dinos women's lone medal of the day. Rissling reclaimed her 2015 silver medal in the 200m breast-stroke event for her second podium-finish of the weekend. The third-year kinesiology major beat her 2015 finish of 2:30.13, this time swimming the race in 2:29.88.

The 200-metre butterfly events were good to the Dinos, with one medal on each side. Thomas Jobin reached the silver medal step on the podium in his time of 2:03.27, while Danielle D'Aoust won bronze on the women's side in 2:18.45.

The day ended with the relays. While the Dinos women only managed 10th place in their 4x200m relay, the men took silver. The Dinos' conference rivals – the UBC Thunderbirds – won the men's relay with a time of 7:29.30 – about five seconds faster than the Dinos.

The University of Toronto continues to top both the men's and women's team standings. The Varsity Blues men hold a commanding 95.5 point lead over the second-place UBC Thunderbirds. On the women's side it looks very similar, with Toronto holding a 58.5 point lead over the Thunderbirds. The Dinos sit a distant third in both the men's and women's team standings.

The competition concludes Sunday.
