Dinos swept in weekend doubleheader with Huskies

CALGARY - The Dinos could not match the electric atmosphere of the roaring Jack Simpson Gym crowd during NBA All-Star Challenge as they were handed their second loss against the Saskatchewan Huskies. After the crushing 78-47 loss, the Dinos record becomes 7-4. The Saskatchewan Huskies remains undefeated with an authoritative 10-0 record in the CIS rankings.

In the first half, the Dinos already looked like a different team from last night as they played with a lot more confidence and flair by keeping the contest neck and neck with the Huskies. However, near the end of the 2nd quarter, the Huskies would gain a 10 point lead while the Dinos struggled with a poor field goal percentage. Although the Dinos made strong pushes, the Huskies kept solidifying their lead before eventually putting the Dinos to rest with a 31 point lead.

The Dinos' FG% hurt them severely tonight and was the key factor for their loss. They shot an abysmal 17-65 shots making their percentage for the night 26.2%. Also, the Huskies capitalized on the Dinos' turnovers by scoring 27 points and outscored the Dinos 30-18 in the paint. On the Dinos, the scoring effort was led by Brianna Ghali and Claire Colborne with 11 points each.

While head coach Damian Jennings blamed the Dinos' lack of spirit last night, tonight he felt the issue was finishing and execution. He said "last night was a spirit of play issue, tonight wasn't a spirit of play issue to start. In the end, it was just our execution."

With regards to the field goal percentage, Jennings did not feel that it was indicative of the team's shot selection. He said that  "the difficulty is actually that the shots we took I wouldn't have taken back...they just didn't fall. I don't think I've ever said that in an interview before...we had inside catches that we wanted, we had driving layups, open 3s [but the shots did not fall]."

Next week, the Dinos will look to improve their record and travel to Manitoba to face the Brandon Bobcats on January 15 and 16.
