Dinos alone in first after sweeping Brandon

BRANDON - The eighth-ranked University of Calgary Dinos wrapped up a weekend sweep of the Brandon Bobcats with a come-from-behind 85-79 win Saturday night.

With the win, Calgary becomes the first Pioneer Division team to earn 10 wins and sits atop the division standings with a 10-3 record

The Bobcats started strong and led 26-18 at the end of the first quarter and were up by half a dozen going into the break.

Coming out of halftime, the BU men's team saw their lead increase to 11 as they grabbed a 55-44 advantage with 6:33 left in the third quarter.

Calgary chipped away at their deficit with a 5-0 run with 2:29 remaining in the third to trail 59-55 and when the quarter came to a close the road team was down 63-57.

The Dinos continued to close the gap in the fourth quarter and at the halfway mark they held a slim 71-70 lead over the Bobcats.

Calgary then pulled ahead for good with an 8-0 run late in the contest to pick up the weekend sweep over Brandon.

Thomas Cooper collected a team-high 28 points as the Dinos extended their winning streak to six straight, while improving their conference record to 10-and-3.

D.J. Jordan scored a game-high 29 points, while Troy Grant got 22 points for the Bobcats, who remain winless on the season at 0-and-10.

"We were facing the No. 8 team in the country, so I feel like we came together as a group the whole weekend," said Grant. "Friday was our best game as a group and Saturday we matched and actually beat that. We are making all the right steps and I feel like our team is right around the corner to gelling and starting to get some wins."

Brandon is back on home court this coming weekend when they welcome the Alberta Golden Bears, while the Dinos travel to Langley, B.C. to take on the winless Trinity Western Spartans (0-10).
