Inspired rally falls short as Dinos dropped by Cascades

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - One of the greatest careers in Canada West men's basketball history came to an end Saturday night as Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson and the University of Calgary Dinos fell 72-65 to Fraser Valley in Game 2 of the Canada West quarterfinal.

UFV advances to the Canada West Final Four next weekend, while the Dinos saw their season come to a close - but they fought tooth-and-nail before that happened.

Ogungbemi-Jackson, who finishes as the third-leading scorer in Dinos history, led the Dinos on an epic comeback that almost went all the way. Trailing by 23 points late in the third quarter, Calgary looked down and out - but they made it all the way back to within two points at 67-65 with 1:27 left in regulation.

Cascades power forward Nate Brown answered with a hook shot, though, and fifth-year centre Jasper Moedt soared for a defensive rebound in traffic on the next Calgary possession and hit two subsequent free throws to get the lead back to 71-65 with 23.5 seconds remaining and essentially salt the game away.

Dulay finished with a game-high 21 points – when he wasn't knocking down shots from beyond the arc (he went 4-for-7 from three-point range) he was penetrating into the paint and hitting floaters over the outstretched arms of Dinos defenders.

Brown stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Moedt had a double-double for the second straight night with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kadeem Willis chipped in with 11 points off the bench.

Ogungbemi-Jackson, playing what turned out to be the final game of his outstanding Canada West career, only had four points to his credit through three quarters, but he exploded in the fourth with 12 points to lead the Dinos' comeback. He finished with a game high of 16, to go with eight rebounds - all of them defensive.

Canada West rookie of the year Lars Schleuter scored 12 points, while Abbotsford native Matt Letkeman had 10 points and four boards off the Dinos bench.
