Dinos drop first of series to Manitoba

WINNIPEG - Friday evening February 13, 2015, the Manitoba Bisons women's hockey team beat the Calgary Dinos 4–1 in their second last game of the regular season at Wayne Fleming Arena.

With the victory Manitoba takes the first of a two game series against Calgary improving the playoff bound Bisons' record to 19–7–1 while the Dinos' record drops to 13–9–5.

"This was a huge character win for us," said Bisons assistant coach Lisa Peters, "to see that third period and see how we can elevate our game that's big for us."
The Dinos opened the scoring just over seven minuets in to the game when Janelle Parent tipped a wrist shot from the point past Bisons net minder Rachel Dyck on the powerplay. Manitoba outshot Calgary in the first 8–5 but remained scoreless throughout the period.

The second period was full of excitement despite either team scoring. With just seconds left a shot on net trickled through Hayley Dowling's pads but time expired before the puck crossed the line. Shots in the second period were 6–5 for the Dinos.

The Bisons tied the game just over five minutes into the third when Alanna Sharman scored her team leading 17 goal of the year on a breakaway. Just before the 10-minute mark of the third period the home team would score again to take a 2–1 lead. Forward Charity Price, scored the goal, her fifth of the season. With just over five minutes left to play the Price would score her second goal of the game off a rebound making it a 3–1 game for the Bisons. With a minute and a half left in the game forward Courtlyn Oswald would score the fourth goal for the Bisons on a rebound on the powerplay.

"We've had a few games this year where we've come from behind," Peters said. "Once that first goal went in the tension released and the girls just let it rip from there."

The Bisons play their next and final game of the season tomorrow Saturday, February 14 in a rematch with the Dinos in a 1 p.m. matinee game CST at Wayne Fleming Arena.
