Dinos finish season undefeated for first time in program history

| By:

CALGARY – In an authoritative 29-8 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns, the University of Calgary Dinos go undefeated in their regular season for the first time in recent history.

The Dinos were ready for action as soon as they set foot on the grass. Minutes into the game, the Dinos battled through the Horns players for a strong push into the opponent's zone. In this early surge, former CIS Rookie of the Year DaLeaka Menin put the Dinos on the scoreboard with a try.

After a sluggish start by the Horns, a strong run by wing Nicole Ronsky got them back in the game. Reinvigorated, the Horns moved the ball up with confidence and Christy Weiss put the Horns on the scoreboard with a try.

Following the tries by both teams, the pace picked up. Good runs back and forth by both teams and intense battles in scrums and rucks characterized the rest of the first half. The Dinos were able to edge the Horns with a try from Amy Hawkings. Both teams, however, were now more evenly matched than at the beginning of the game

In the second half, the battles were consistently intense and both teams were neck and neck in the competition. Tries scored by Karley Guebert, Sarah Adriano, and Elysa Sandron gave the Dinos a comfortable lead even though the Horns put up a strong fight. The second half surge by the Dinos guaranteed their undefeated record for the regular season.

Even with the win, head coach Simon Chi believed there was room for improvement. He said "it's great to have a win like that but at times it felt like we were playing in quicksand…it just signals that we've got to work harder if we want to get to that next level."

After this win, the Dinos are looking forward to their semifinal matchup at the upcoming Canada West championship taking place from October 23 to 25 in Edmonton. If they win, they will secure a spot at the CIS championship hosted in Kingston, Ontario.

As for his expectations for the playoffs, head coach Simon Chi said "not to be too clichéd, but we'll just take it one game at a time…it's a matter of 'let's play the game that we know how to play'"
