CALGARY - In their second game of a Thanksgiving weekend set, a windy Cougars Stadium Field saw the Mount Royal Cougars end their match against the Calgary Dinos in a 1-1 stalemate.
The Dinos came in looking to keep yesterday's momentum going after a huge come from behind win against the Cougars. Mount Royal on the other hand looked to close in on UBC and Alberta atop of the Canada West standings.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the 19th minute. After a brilliant cross from Mount Royal leading scorer Cody Cook hit some bodies in front and Cook was able to hustle to the front of the net and got the job done himself, putting the Cougars up 1-0.
Mount Royal kept the pedal down and in the 33rd minute just narrowly missed after a throw-in made it to the front of the Calgary net. It looked as though the Cougars would take a two-goal lead when the ball got behind keeper
Hunter Brett but a valiant diving effort from Dinos defender
Dominick Zator to clear kept Calgary within one.
Calgary took the ball the other way and six minutes later midfielder
Cristiano De Carvalho was able to beat a sprawling Kamil Zielinski in the Cougars' goal. De Carvalho's first goal of the season equalized the match going into half.
The Dinos had another great chance in the 72nd minute when their hat-trick performer from yesterday's game
Dominic Russo took a shot from point blank range only to be turned away by a diving Zielinski.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game, and the heated rivals were forced to settle with a 1-1 tie.
Cougars' goalkeeper Kamil Zielinski finished the game with one save, while Dinos keeper
Hunter Brett turned away eight.
The now 4-2-2 Dinos will play host to the University of Alberta next Saturday while Mount Royal, now 6-3-1, will host MacEwan University at home on Saturday.
