REGINA - For the second straight evening, the Calgary Dinos walked away with a 2-1 win over the University of Regina men's hockey team at The Co-operators Centre.
Unlike Thursday's result, Friday's game was decided in overtime. Chris Collins was the hero for the Dinos, scoring an impressive goal to win the game for the visitors and end the Cougars season on a sour note. Spencer Edwards also scored for the Dinos.
Ward Szucki (pictured) replied for the Cougars, who end their season with an 8-17-3 record.
Mitch Kilgore was solid in net, making 41 saves in the loss. Jacob DeSerres stopped 21 shots for Calgary.
Calgary opened the scoring at the tail-end of a powerplay after Ian McNulty was sent to the box for tripping. The Dinos broke into the zone and Dylan Walchuk found Edwards who squeezed a low shot through the five hole of Kilgore. Drydn Dow also collected an assist on the play.
After a scoreless second period, the Cougars would tie things up with 6:59 left in the third. Carter Selinger dropped a pass off to Tyler Henry who put it on net. Henry's shot was tipped under the pad of DeSerres by Szucki for his second of the season, making it a 1-1 game.
The overtime winner came with 1:52 remaining in the extra frame. Collins took a give-and-go feed from Kodie Curran and swooped in down the right side. He out-muscled a defender and roofed a high shot over the shoulder of Kilgore to give the DInos the win.
The Cougars certainly won the physical battle on Friday night, countering the speed of the Dinos with some heavy hitting. Dylen McKinlay, Selinger and Szucki were just a few of the Cougars to lay some impressive hits on the Dinos.
Calgary finishes with a 20-8 record and will have a bye to the Canada West semifinal.
