CALGARY – The Regina Cougars were no match for the Calgary Dinos as they swept the visitors 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 28-26) at Jack Simpson Gymnasium on Feb. 8 to earn their tenth win of the season.

With the win, the Dinos improve to 10-11, just one game back of Manitoba who currently sits in sixth place. Calgary's playoff position could come down to the final games to be played of the regular season tomorrow night.

Four Dinos hit double digits in the three-set win including a game-high 15 points from veteran Andrea Price. Third-year Lindsay Russell was right behind her with 14 points including a game-high 12 kills. Courtney Dawson and Lindsey Doland scored 12 and 11.5 points, respectively.

Captain Michelle Sweeting lead the Cougars (5-16) on the night with nine kills, three aces and a block. Desiree Ates was also effective with another nine points for the visitors.

The Dinos came out on fire and pushed through some impressive offence from the Cougars to earn a lead at the technical by a score of 16-11. From there, they continued to push the limits of Regina's defence. The home team came out on top in the first set with a kill from Angelica Quiring. Calgary took the first set 25-15.

Battling it out in the second set, the Dinos didn't gain a lead until they hit ten points where they went on a 5-0 run. The Cougars trailed the Dinos by four at the break. Calgary maintained that lead with Russell being a force at the net. They went on to win it 25-18 in the second set for the 2-0 lead.

Calgary had trouble in the third set getting going as Regina put up a number of big blocks against the Dinos offence. Head coach Natalie Schwartz was forced to call a timeout when Calgary found themselves down 8-3.

After the timeout, Calgary got within one, but Regina was relentless, finding ways to capitalize. The visitors lead 16-10 at the break with a lot of work for the home team to do to win it. The Dinos went on a 6-0 run with Andrea Price serving at the line to tie it up.

The scoring didn't stop there. The score read 18-16 before Regina got the ball back. All tied up at 19, both teams fought for the lead right til the end, needing extra points. The Dinos finally won the match with a block from Doland.

Both teams will go head to head again tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. when the Dinos will celebrate their seniors that include Andrea Price, Lindsey Doland, Brooke Halvorsen and Sarah Moncks
