Playoff push comes down to final weekend

| By:
CALGARY – The Dinos' season on the women's side will come down to the last weekend of regular season play as they have just one more chance at solidifying that final playoff position.

Taking on the 5-15 Regina Cougars on Friday and Saturday night, the Dinos will need these wins to continue into the post-season. The women will take on the visiting Cougars at 7:30pm on Friday, following by a 5pm start on Saturday.

Friday will be the third meeting between these two teams since the beginning of the season. Calgary handily defeated Regina in both exhibition games, one at the beginning of the season, and one during the break, in straight sets.

The Cougars swept the Saskatchewan Huskies last weekend for their fourth and fifth wins of the season and are looking to use that momentum to end the Dinos' season early.

Calgary comes off some tough losses to a strong Trinity Western squad last weekend who are currently ranked No. 2 in the country. Prior to that they swept the 0-20 Thompson Rivers WolfPack, and will need to make these games count if they want to get into the post-season and keep their season alive.

On Saturday, the women's volleyball team will also be celebrating Enterprise Rent-A-Car Senior Night. Four players graduate this season including Lindsey Doland, Brooke Halvorsen, Sarah Moncks and Andrea Price, all of which have been major factors in Calgary's success this season as regular starters for the Dinos.

On the men's side, both the Calgary Dinos and the Regina Cougars are officially out of playoff contention. The men will play first on Friday at 6pm and they will follow the women on Saturday at 6:30pm.

The Cougars sit in last place in the Canada West standings, tying UBC Okanagan with a 2-18 record. The last time they won a game was against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack back in November.

The Dinos will look to add some wins to their record in their last weekend of play of the 2012-13 season. Calgary will graduate no players on Senior Night.

Despite a less than stellar season, Calgary, in large part, used this year as a stepping-stone for the upcoming season. Hosting nationals in 2014, the Dinos return a number of key players including outside hitters Greg Mann, Will Young and rookie Sean Martin. Setter Jackson Maris will also make a welcome return in his third-year.

Should the Dinos women's team make playoffs, they will likely end up in the seventh and final spot. This will mean they will head back to Langley, B.C. to face the Trinity Western Spartans in the Canada West quarterfinals.

The two teams met just last weekend, where the No. 2 Spartans defeated the Dinos 3-1 and 3-0 on their home court.
