BOX SCORE
CALGARY – The Dinos dominated the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns 81-73 on Thursday night at Jack Simpson Gymnasium in front of over 1,900 fans.
Needing to sweep this week's games to head into the post season, the Dinos, now 13-8 and just one game away from completing that task and keeping their season alive. Lethbridge drops to 11-10.
Four Dinos hit double-digits tonight, with a game-high 28 coming from Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson. The point guard earned the double-double, adding ten rebounds. Jasdeep Gill scored another 15 for Calgary, and Matt Letkeman and Youri Anissovets scored another 12 and ten, respectively. Thijin Moses grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Pronghorn Derek Waldner recorded the only double-double for his team, with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Julian Spear Chief-Morris added 18 points and seven rebounds for Lethbridge and Chaz Johnson scored another ten.
In front of a massive crowd at the Jack, with the rowdiest fans right behind the Pronghorns bench, the Dinos got off to a great start, gaining a ten point lead at 18-8. The visitors closed the gap to eight points before the end of the quarter.
In the second, Calgary's lead grew and they maintained it throughout the quarter. Ogungbemi-Jackson was the first player on the court to hit double digits, shooting a three-pointer to make it 12 at the five minute mark. Despite the Dinos fouling quite often in the final minutes of the half, they headed into the third up 43-31, thanks to a buzzer beater three from Ogungbemi-Jackson to get the crowd hyped up.
The second half simply saw the Dinos' lead grow and there was really nothing Lethbridge did to stop it. With five minutes left in the game, Calgary extended it's lead to a game-high 20 points and they went on to win a very important game, 81-73.
The Dinos will head to Lethbridge tomorrow night in the second installment of a home-and-home series and will hope to complete the sweep to play a Canada West quarter-final next weekend. Tip-off will go to 8 p.m.
