Consistent Dinos get straight-sets win

| By:
BOX SCORE KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The University of Calgary Dinos have drawn first blood in their Canada West weekend series with the home town Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in women's volleyball, beating the WolfPack 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) Friday afternoon.

Calgary moves to 2 and 1 on the year while the 'Pack are winless in three.

"We are really young and our journey is to learn what the things are that are important to us," said Dinos head coach  Natalie Gurnsey. "We believe we will get the wins in the long term. We took care of offensive stuff we worked on this week."

The Dinos were led by Ali Woolley. She had eight kills in 24 chances. Emma Pedersen had six kills in 14 opportunities.

Kyjsa Brkitch had 16 assists while Jordhynn Guy had 12 assists.  Courtney Davis chipped in with 16 digs.

Gurnsey felt her team adjusted well to playing at the TCC—noted as one of the toughest gyms for visiting volleyball players to get used to serving at.

"The serve/pass could be very hard in this gym at times with the ball moving differently. Thankfully, we practice in a pretty open space on a weekly basis. We adjusted well."

TRU was led by Brianne Rauch with 11 kills in 35 opportunities. Morgan Kolasa had 10 kills in 37 chances.

Tori Taneda was named the "McDonalds/TRU Bookstore Leader of the Pack" Player of the Match with 22 assists. Gabby Fortin had 10 digs.

The two teams will play again Saturday afternoon at the Tournament Capital Centre.  Game time is 2 p.m. MT, live on CanadaWest.tv.
