CALGARY – The Dinos had no problem winning their eighth game of the season on Jan. 25, when they defeated the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in three (25-17, 25-10, 25-16).
In an uneventful match, the Dinos snapped their three game losing streak after losing to the UBCO Heat in five twice last weekend. The weekend before saw Calgary split with No. 2 Alberta. With a win tomorrow night, the Dinos will be back at .500 with a 9-9 record. They currently sit in sixth place in the Canada West conference.
Getting off to a great start in ever set, the Dinos never looked back they handily took down the WolfPack regardless of what the visitors threw at them. A solid offence and a quick defence both at the end and in the back court provided the Dinos with the tools they needed to get the job done.
The Dinos saw some rookies get some playing time, including the likes of
Ali Woolley who was named Player of the Game for Calgary with three kills and an ace. Rookie setter
Kyjsa Brkich also saw the court, starting and playing the entirety of the third set.
Middle
Courtney Dawson led the way for Calgary with a game-high 13 points on eight kills, three aces and two blocks. Teammate
Sarah Moncks was right behind her with 12.5 points for the Dinos. She recorded eight kills, three aces and 1.5 blocks. Left side
Lindsey Doland also added eight kills for the Dinos while setter
Jordhynn Guy picked up 23 assists despite playing just two sets.
For the WolfPack, the offence was spread out between the team with four players recording four kills, Rachel Murray led the way recording five.
The 8-9 Dinos will rematch the visiting 0-17 WolfPack Jan. 26 at Jack Simpson Gymnasium at 5 p.m.
