BOX SCORE

REGINA –
Graham Vigrass had 22 kills for the University of Calgary's men's volleyball team on Friday night as the Dinos defeated the Regina Cougars in straight sets in Gym 1 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Vigrass ended up with just three errors on 35 attacks, giving the fifth-year middle a blistering .543 hitting percentage – and that didn't even lead the Dinos, as Allen Meek had 10 kills while hitting at an impressive .562 clip.

The Dinos came out firing on all cylinders, hitting .556 while recording a dominant 25-9 first-set victory. They hit even better in the second set, registering a .559 hitting percentage while taking a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 win.

The Cougars had some pushback in the third set, but saw a four-point lead disappear after Calgary won five of the set's final six points to clinch the match with a 26-24 victory.

Meek also led Calgary in both digs (8) and blocks (6), while Vigrass and Greg Mann both had four block assists. Jay Blankenau dished out 37 assists for the Dinos (10-9) as they move into a tie for fifth place in the Canada West standings. Calgary still has a chance to move up to fourth place in the conference and earn the right to host a Canada West quarterfinal series, but will need a win over the Cougars tomorrow coupled with an Alberta win over Brandon to go into a sets won/sets lost tiebreaker with the Bobcats.

Andrew Nelson had a team-high 11 kills for the Cougars, while Joel Colter had eight digs on just 13 attacks and led the U of R with three blocks. Caleb Eschbach had 25 assists and six digs for Regina.

Calgary and Regina will square off on Saturday night in the main gym at the CKHS with first serve scheduled for 5:15 p.m. MT, live on Canada West.tv.
