Dinos open weekend with quick 3-0 defeat of Huskies

BOX SCORE SASKATOON - The University of Calgary Dinos opened a two game series in Saskatoon with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-16) victory over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night at the PAC.
 
With the win, Calgary improves to 5-6 on the season, while the Huskies fall to 1-10.
 
Calgary's five point scoring streak to lead 16-9 kept the Dinos ahead in the first set. Although the Huskies followed with a short streak of their own to pull within three points, Saskatchewan couldn't recover.  The Huskies did have four service aces in the set.
 
Matching each other point-for-point in the second set, Calgary broke away to the win in the second set at 17 points. The Dinos had two kills and one block to pull away at 20-17 and never looked back.
 
After a Candace Hueser attack to pull the Huskies within two points at 12-10, Calgary went on an eight-point streak on Angelica Quiring serves. In the streak, Sarah Moncks had two kills. Saskatchewan couldn't recover and the Dinos went on to win 25-16.
 
Moncks finished the match with 10 kills for the Dinos, while Andrea Price and Courtney Dawson each had eight. Moncks also led Calgary on defence with nine digs.
 
Hueser and Kayla Tycholiz led the Huskies with 10 kills each. Haley Williams recorded a match-high 13 digs.
 
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon. Match time is 5:15 p.m. MT.
