BOX SCORE CALGARY – It took five match points to finally put the Winnipeg Wesmen away, but the University of Calgary Dinos escaped with a 3-2 women's volleyball win (25-17, 18-25, 25-18, 23-25, 18-16) Sunday afternoon in the Jack Simpson Gym to sweep their weekend series.

Led by twin 15-kill performances from Courtney Dawson and Andrea Price, the Dinos did just enough to get the win, despite committing service errors on two of their five match point opportunities. A kill by Lindsey Doland set up the final chance, though, and Carleen Kruschel's attack sailed out the back of the court to give the Dinos an 18-16 win in the deciding fifth set.

Calgary improves to 3-3 on the season, while Winnipeg continues to search for its first victory after an 0-5 start to the campaign.

It was a match where the Dinos didn't take full advantage of many of their opportunities, while the Wesmen scrapped to the finish. The Dinos opened with a 25-17 win in the first set, where they led wire-to-wire, but fell behind early in the second and dropped that one 25-18. They reasserted themselves in the third with a 25-18 win of their own, then fell 25-23 in the fourth – after coming back from a 23-18 deficit, forcing the fifth set.

Ozana Nikolic's 14 kills led the way for Winnipeg, though those were mitigated by 17 attack errors, and a team-high 21 digs. Kruschel picked up 12 kills, with Sarah Lynch contributing 11.

For the Dinos, Sarah Moncks put up a monster defensive performance with 25 digs to go with 12 kills, while Doland's 13 followed the combined 30 put up by Price and Dawson.

Calgary enjoyed a 15-11 edge in blocks. The Dinos hit 17.5 per cent on the afternoon while holding Winnipeg to 8.9 per cent.

The Dinos remain home next week to host the UBC Thunderbirds for a two-game set Nov. 16-17, while Winnipeg stays on the road in a week's time when they face the Regina Cougars.
