BOX SCORE BRANDON, Man. - With two minutes remaining in the first half, the lights went out in the Brandon University Gym Saturday night - and the Calgary Dinos had trouble switching them back on in the second half, dropping an 85-72 season-opening win to the Bobcats.
BOX SCORE
A power outage that struck numerous neighbourhoods in Brandon caused a 10-minute delay late in the opening half. When the lights came back on, the Dinos then ended the second quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 39-27 lead into the break.
That 12-point advantage evaporated in the third quarter, however, as the Bobcats came out with guns blazing and outscored the Dinos 27-14 in the period. The trend continued in the fourth at 28-22 as Brandon put up 55 points in the second half to take the victory, snapping a 14-game conference losing skid.
Newcomer Emerick Ravier shot 11-of-15 from the field for 31 points, 17 better than his next-closest teammate, Ilarion Bonhomme. Ali Mounir added 11 for the Bobcats.
Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson finished with a double-double for the Dinos with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while
Matt Letkeman finished one point shy of a double-double at nine points and 10 rebounds.
Tyler Fidler added 13 points, while
Andrew McGuinness chipped in with an even dozen.
The two teams will meet again Sunday at 5 p.m. MT. Calgary's home openers go next week when they face the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Friday, Nov. 11 and the UBC Okanagan Heat Saturday, Nov. 12.
