| By:

CALGARY -The Calgary Dinos women's volleyball team ended their two-game losing streak on Friday night at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium, vanquishing the visiting Bobcats in a 3-0 victory (26-24, 25-22, 25-14).

BOX SCORE

Dinos' fourth year outside hitter Sarah Moncks had a strong performance for the Dinos, earning eight kills and 14 digs on the night. Dinos' Ali Sandholm also had a solid evening with 12 kills off 20 sets received on the evening. Dinos' fifth year setter Sarah Lacny was instrumental in the win - earning Player of the Game honors. Lacny's 35 assists were crucial in powering the Dinos attack. The Dinos had a 0.305 hitting percentage in the match and recorded a 44 total kills.

The first set had the Bobcats leading the majority of it with the largest lead coming at 17-12, caused by some costly service reception errors by the Dinos and the strong play of Bobcat captain Jaryn Reuther.

Sara Moncks started off a Dinos run in the late going with a momentum changing kill, while some Bobcat service-reception miscues and two huge kills from middle Courtney Dawson and Maura Hayes brought the Dinos all the way back to lead 25-24. Brandon's Victoria Dakin could not find the court on a final chance for the Bobcats to avoid a first set loss and the Dinos bested the Bobcats 26-24.

The Dinos came out to an early 7-3 lead in the second game against the defeated Bobcats after the close first set loss. The Bobcats then went on a 6-1 run to tie the Dinos at 9-9, with both squads exchanging the lead multiple throughout the set. A miscommunication between the Bobcats setter and middle hitter as well as several Brandon hitting errors ended up in a 22-19 lead for the Dinos late and the Bobcats could not mount enough of an offensive attack to come back in the set, eventually succumbing by a score of 25-22.

The third set was all Dinos, with Calgary taking the lead and never looking back. There was a ten point spread between the Dinos and the visiting Bobcats for much of the set, with the final score resulting in a 25-14 decision, in favour of the Dinos.

The Bobcats were led by their captain Reuther, who earned 11 kills and five digs, while teammate Chloe Reimer contributed eight kills and eight digs from her outside position.

The Dinos now move to 3-4 on the year while the Bobcats fall to 2-5, the Dinos will hope to do much of the same tomorrow night as they again face the Bobcats in a 6 p.m. matchup at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
