CALGARY - After a first set loss, the University of Calgary Dinos came back to conquer the visiting Brandon Bobcats in a 3-1 decision (21-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-18) Friday night at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Four players from the Dinos had double digit kills on the night with fifth year right side Allen Meek leading the Dinos squad with 18 kills and four digs. Levi Nutma and Chris Hoag each had 16 and 10 kills respectively, while Graham Vigrass rounded out the group with 14 kills on the evening. Dinos setter Jay Blankenau had 53 set assists in his role facilitating the Dinos attack.
Powered by strong serving from Brandon's Brendan White and some service reception miscues by the Dinos, the Bobcats took a 7-4 lead in the first set. From there, the Bobcats maintained a two to three point lead for the majority of the game.
Two big kills from Meek, and Hoag pulled the Dinos to within one at 21-22, but the Dinos could not continue with the comeback as the Bobcats claimed the first set victory by a score of 25-21. Bobcats 6'9 middle Jon Sloane had a strong first set, earning five kills and one dig.
The Dinos and Bobcats traded the lead multiple times in the second set of action, and at the technical timeout the Bobcats held the lead by a score of 16-15. Following the break, the Dinos went on a 3-0 run, taking an 18-16 lead. A huge line shot and an off the block kill from Allen Meek pushed the Dinos to a 23-20 lead. The Bobcats would not give up however, going on their own 3-0 run to tie things up at 23. Both squads traded points back and forth, including three possible set points for the Dinos. Calgary finally finished things off on a Bobcat setting error from Paul Robidoux, earning a 27-25 second set victory.
After a tough second set loss the Bobcats came back strong going on a 4-1 run early, taking an 8-5 lead. The Dinos countered with a 5-0 run, which included a huge block from Dinos fifth year setter Jay Blankenau and a service ace by Allen Meek, to take a 16-14 lead going into the technical timeout. A line shot kill from Meek and off the block kill from Hoag late in the set propelled the Dinos to a 25-20 third set win, going up two sets to one in the match.
The Dinos came out to an early 5-2 lead in the fourth, only to see that lead evaporate as the Bobcats went on a 6-0 run, aided by the strong serving of Bobcat middle Sloane, who had 2 service aces on the run. The Dinos countered by going on a 4-0 run of their own and regaining a 9-7 lead, the Dinos held the lead for the rest of the set beating the Bobcats by a score of 25-18.
The Bobcats two outsides Paul Robidoux and Ben Glue lead the Bobcats with Robidoux earning 12 kills and 13 digs. Glue added 12 kills and 11 digs.
The Dinos move to 4-3 on the year with the win, and the Bobcats fall to 1-6, these two squads will face off again tomorrow evening 8:00 pm at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
