Calgary back at .500 after sweep of Wesmen

WINNIPEG - The Calgary Dinos completed a two match sweep over the Winnipeg Wesmen with a straight sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-21) victory Friday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

The number four ranked Dinos defeated the Wesmen Thursday night in four tough sets.

Calgary built an early 8-4 lead in the first set but Winnipeg was able to keep pace with the Dinos trailing by a pair of points, 16-14 at the technical timeout. Calgary eventually went on to win the opening set 25-22. Calgary finished the opening set with a hitting percentage of .436.In the second set Calgary jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and Winnipeg was unable to recover with the Dinos winning the set by a score of 25-13. The Wesmen started the third set on a positive note leading 5-1 early on. Calgary battled back to take a 16-12 lead at the technical break and soon after went on to win the third set 25-21.

Fourth year left side Chris Hoag led Calgary with a match high 13 kills. Levi Nutma added 11 kills. Jay Blankeau and Allen Meek led the team in digs with nine each.

The Wesmen were led by second year outside Nathaniel Therrien's seven kills. Matthew Stubler added six. Libero Stephane Waldie had a match high 12 digs.

The victory improves Calgary's record to 3-3, Winnipeg falls to 1-5.

Calgary will be home next weekend against the Brandon Bobcats. Winnipeg will travel to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Golden Bears next Friday and Saturday.
