BOX SCORE CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos battled the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds to a 1-1 draw Saturday at the West Varsity Soccer Pitch, keeping their playoff hopes alive in the process.
BOX SCORE
The Dinos found the back of the net early in the first half at the 13th minute. Calgary got deep into the UBC end with a series of great passes.
Izak Lawrence got off the shot and beat the outstretched goalkeeper for the 1-0 advantage.
A solid kick by Gagandeep Dosanjh at the 35th minute allowed UBC to tie the game as he caught the Calgary 'keeper trying to take away the other lanes.
The second half saw both teams go back and forth, but neither team was able to break the deadlock as the game ended in a draw. UBC outshot Calgary eight to six, and the Thunderbirds had two corner kicks while the Dinos had none.
The draw clinches a playoff spot for UBC. For the Dinos, meanwhile, a playoff spot is still available as they trail the Trinity Western Spartans by three points with just one game remaining for both teams. That game will be played Sunday afternoon at the West Varsity Pitch, and a victory by the Dinos would clinch the fourth and final playoff spot in Canada West. A tie or a loss to Trinity Western would eliminate Calgary from the post-season.
UBC will travel and take on Lethbridge tomorrow to finish their regular season.
