Dinos 2-0 after defeating Vikes

| By:
VICTORIA - Days after recording the program's first-ever CIS victory, the University of Calgary Dinos made it two in a row with a 31-15 victory over the Victoria Vikes Sunday afternoon on Vancouver Island.

It was the second annual Jenny Vincent Memorial Game, named in honour of the late coach of both the Vikes and the Dinos. Vincent passed away in January 2010 after battling cancer, just months after leading the Dinos into Canada West competition.

Miscues by the Vikes in the first half allowed an organized Calgary Dinos team to take an early lead. At half, the score favored the Dinos 19-0. Stand out play by Dinos prop Samantha Crandell gave the young Dinos team the forward momentum they needed to challenge the Vikes.

The UVic women looked to rebound in the second half, scoring a total of 15 points. UVic players Alanna Cryer and Karli Macfarlane broke the Calgary line repeatedly.  The Vikes competed hard bringing a high level of intensity to the field but were unable to make the comeback. The Dinos scored three more times in the second half to lift them 31-15 over the Vikes.

Calgary enjoys a week off before travelling to Lethbridge and Alberta Oct. 13 and 16, respectively. The Dinos host the 2011 Canada West rugby championship Oct. 21 and 23.
