CALGARY – The Dinos women's rugby team will lace up the boots twice this weekend in Victoria and Vancouver this weekend as they take on the Vikes and T-Birds, their second and third of four Canada West opponents on their schedule this year.
The Dinos enter the game fresh off a disappointing 78-0 stomping at the hands of Canada West's runner up team from last season, the Alberta Pandas.
Similarly, Victoria will be looking to get onto the scoreboard for the season after being shut out by the Lethbridge Pronghorns 63-0. Lethbridge followed up a Canada West championship last year by winning the Monilex trophy, the CIS championship.
Last season the Vikes fought the Dinos to an extremely close 5-0 victory, pushing the Dinos into the bottom of Canada West and landing Victoria in fourth place. That win was Victoria's first win since the 2001-2002 season.
UBC's record currently sits at 0-1 after Lethbridge trounced them, 78-7, in their opener. The T-Birds will play the Pandas on Friday before their Sunday tilt with the Dinos.
With only four total games on the schedule for the Dinos they will have to make something happen quickly in order to make a mark on Canada West this season.
The first game kicks off on Friday at 6 p.m. MT on Wallace Field in Victoria. The weekend concludes for the Dinos on Sunday at Thunderbird Park with a 2 p.m. MT start.
