Lawrence gives Dinos key victory in Lethbridge

| By:
LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - On the strength of a first half goal, the Calgary Dinos downed the Lethbridge Pronghorns 1-0 in the front half of a home-and-home series.

BOX SCORE

The Canada West leader in saves, Colin Pattison did his best to keep the Horns in the game making another seven saves. Two of Pattison's saves were in spectacular fashion, coming late in the second half, keeping the Horns within striking distance, but in the end the Horns ran out of time.

Calgary opened pressuring the Horns but a strong defensive effort kept the Dinos at bay. Freshman Justin Latrace stifled a partial Dinos breakaway with a great effort to get back and break up the play.

From there it was the Horns turn to apply some pressure, generating three quality scoring opportunities. The most dangerous chance came with Andrew Malcolm finding a unmarked Steve Brown just outside the 6-yard box, but #J.P. Crescenzi# turned the close range shot away.

The Dinos came dangerously close to opening the scoring in the 33rd minute, but after Pattison missed the looping shot Latrace raced back and cleared it off the line.

The lone goal came three minutes later with Devin Delany springing Izak Lawrence free, and after fighting off a Horns defender he made no mistake beating Pattison.

Being down by one the Horns were able to ramp up the offensive attack but Crescenzi turned away both Malcom's shot and a rebound header from Matt Medoruma.

Calgary came out of the dressing room looking to add to their lead, holding the majority of the ball possession, with Pattison coming up with two brilliant saves to keep the Horns only down one.  First he made a outstanding diving save on Lawrence, who again had broke free from his marker and then facing a breakaway, challenged to get a leg on Delany's attempt.

While the Horns directed 10 shots toward the Calgary goal in the second half, they only forced Crescenzi to make one save.

The Horns fall to 1-5-1, while the Dinos improve to 4-1-2. The back half of the home-and-home goes Sunday afternoon in Calgary, with kickoff slated for 2:15 p.m.
