LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - It was an early lesson for the newest members of the Canada West women's rugby league as the University of Calgary Dinos dropped their first-ever CIS game to the conference's best team, the Lethbridge Pronghorns, 66-0.

The two-time defending CIS champion Pronghorns were not very hospitable to the newest member of Canada West rugby, University of Calgary Dinos squad. The infamous Lethbridge wind made it even more difficult for the Dinos, although it made passes for both teams anything by routine. The Dinos came out strong, and held the Horns constant barrage at bay in the early minutes of the game.

True to form, 2008 CIS Tournament MVP Ashley Patzer (Lethbridge, AB, 5th) found the scoreboard first, taking a pass 15 yards from the goal line and touching the ball down to open the scoring for the Horns. Returning player Andrea Letal (Calgary, AB, 3rd) added to the lead five minutes later, and within fifteen minutes, center Shannon Court (Red Deer, AB, 4th) brought the ball into the end zone three times.

Kenzie Ralph (Raymond, AB, 2nd), Ashley Zaremba (Lethbridge, AB, 5th) and Brittany Orr (Fort Macleod AB, 3rd) all notched tries before the end of the first half.

The story in the second half was much the same as the first, with the fierce wind continuing to hamper passing efforts. Orr and Ralph both added a second try to the scoresheet, while Kendra Reeves (Abbotsford, BC, 2nd) pounded her way through a crowd to notch a try of her own.

Despite the strong and unpredictable wind, Laura-Murphy Burke (Surrey, BC, 2nd) managed to make three converts.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns will find themselves in Canada West Conference action next Saturday, October 2, in Victoria, where they will take on the lady Vikes. The University of Calgary Dinos will also make the trip west to face the UBC Thunderbirds.
