Win puts Dinos one step from division title

| By:

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The CIS third-ranked Calgary Dinos completed the weekend sweep of their Southern Alberta rival Lethbridge Pronghorns with an 88-75 in Canada West men's basketball action Saturday night.

BOX SCORE

Coupled with Alberta's loss to Brandon, the win puts the Dinos just one game away from clinching the Central Division pennant for the second consecutive season. Calgary's magic number is one, meaning any combination of one Calgary win or one Alberta loss in the last six games of the season gives the Dinos the division title.

The Horns continue to search for consistency throughout an entire 40 minutes, and allowed a one-quarter letdown, which resulted in an insurmountable deficit.

After opening up with another strong opening half, the Horns played even with the Dinos in opening quarter and trailed by only seven at the break.

Even with Danhue Lawrence's (Toronto, ON, 3rd) game high 32 points, the Horns could not keep pace with the high flying Dinos, who extended their lead to as many as 18 points in the third frame.

While the Horns made a run to start the final quarter and cut the lead back to as few as four, they could not maintain the pace. High flyer Dinos #Henry Bekkering# and Ross Bekkering, and Tyler Fidler hit consecutive dunks to turn the momentum back in the visitors' favor.

With the tide fully turned back in the Dino favor, the lead went back double digits, peaking at 20 points, before the game settled at a 13 point margin.

Other than Lawrence, Rob Cooper and Allen Kadima were the only Horns to reach double digits with 16 and 14 points respectively.

For the Dinos, the Bekkerings continued to haunt the Horns with Ross picking up another double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Henry picked up a cool 23.

The Horns remain at home next weekend, hosting the Trinity Western Spartans and Simon Fraser Clan, while the Calgary Dinos will face the same two teams but face the Clan Friday night and Spartans Saturday.
