WINNIPEG - The No. 4-ranked University of Calgary Dinos defeated the University of Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17) Friday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

The Dinos rarely trailed en route to the straight-sets victory, which moves them to 10-3 on the season, four points back of first-place Alberta with two matches in hand.
The teams were tied at 2-2 in the first set when Calgary scored six points to take a 8-2 lead at the first technical timeout. The Dinos continued to carry the play extending their lead to 16-7 at the second technical timeout. Calgary was in position to close out the set at 24-14, when the Wesmen reeled off four straight points to close the gap to 24-18. A Winnipeg service error gave Calgary the first set 25-18.
In the second set Calgary continued their domination leading 8-3 and 16-7 at the breaks. Winnipeg would get no closer than ten points with Calgary winning the second set 25-14.
The third set started out more evenly then the previous two. Calgary held a slim 8-6 lead at the first technical timeout. The Wemen played inspired ball after the timeout led by key blocks by Ariel Smith and Alix Krahn and timely kills by Lauren Sears and Marlee Bragg enabled the Wesmen to take the lead 16-15 at the second timeout. Calgary regrouped in a big way going on a 9-1 run to close out the match winning the third set 25-17.
Lauren Perry led Calgary with a match high 11 kills and two service aces. Laura Wilson and Holly Harper each finished with 10 kills. Raynell Lavertu finished with a match-high 15 defensive digs, who played without captain Julie Young.
Lauren Sears led the Wesmen with seven kills. Marlee Bragg contributed six kills. Ariel Smith led thre team with nine defensive digs. Alix Krahn had two blocks in the middle position.
The victory improves Calgary's record to 10-3. The loss drops Winnipeg's record to 1-12. The two teams will wrap up their two match series Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
