Bekkerings spur Dinos to big second half

| By:

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The Bekkering boys put on a show for their hometown fans, combining for 48 points in the No. 4 Calgary Dinos' 100-82 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

BOX SCORE

Both hailing from nearby Taber, Henry and Ross Bekkering led the way on offence for the Dinos, who put up 58 second-half points to move to 3-0 on the season against their southern rivals.

The opening half was an intense 20 minutes with a playoff atmosphere in which the score went back and forth. Neither team could exert their will over the other; the lead never extended beyond four points, with the score tied on seven different occasions. The half ended with the Horns up 44-42.

After the restart, the Horns continued their strong play early, but could not withstand the Dinos' pressure. The Horns built their lead to seven in the opening moments, but the visitors began to chip away at the lead and swung the momentum.

A 21-7 run put the game firmly in the Dinos control, and the visitors had a stellar third quarter outscoring the hosts 21-11, taking the lead at the end of the third quarter by 9.

The final 10 minutes spelled much of the same, with the Dinos building a 24 point lead before settling for the 18 point victory.

Danhue Lawrence and Sephton Spence led the way offensively for the Horns with 20 points apiece.

In his return from a four-game absence, Henry Bekkering was the story for the Dinos in the second half, picking up 18 of his game high 28 points in the final 20 minutes.

His brother Ross also had a strong night for the Dinos, picking up a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Tyler Fidler (17) and Robbie Sihota (14) also hit double digits for the Dinos, who improve to 13-2 and one step closer to clinching the Central Division crown, after losses by both Alberta and Saskatchewan earlier in the night.

With the loss the Horns fall to 4-11. The Horns and Dinos will conclude their season series tomorrow night at the 1st Choice Savings Centre, tip-off is set for 8:15 p.m.
