REGINA, Sask. - Alberta and Manitoba remain undefeated after the first day of the 2008 Cougar Invitational, an eight-team non-conference women's volleyball tournament hosted at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Alberta defeated Calgary 3-1 and took out Brandon in straight sets to end up with a 2-0 record and the Pool A lead after the first day. Brandon (1-1) and Calgary (1-1) are tied for second place in the pool, while Winnipeg (0-2) is in fourth place.

Manitoba recorded a straight-sets victory over Saskatchewan in the early afternoon, then defeated host Regina 3-1 in the 7:00 game. The Bisons are alone atop the Pool B standings, with the Cougars and Saskatchewan tied with a 1-1 record. Simon Fraser is in fourth place with an 0-2 record.

Each team will play one more round-robin match on Saturday afternoon. The semifinals will be played on Saturday night, with the final playoff round scheduled for Sunday.
