SASKATOON - The No. 5-ranked University of Calgary Dinos easily defeated the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 91-66 Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.
The Dinos starting five all scored in the double digits as they managed to create a 15 point margin in the first quarter that the Huskies did not come close to breaking.
BOX SCORE
“This is the fourth week in a row we have come out flat on Friday night,” Huskies head coach Greg Jockims said of his team's lackluster performance. “We lacked internal motivation, we lost and now we'll come out tomorrow with a bit of external motivation. We'll play hard tomorrow, no question.”
Huskies Showron Glover and Daniel Brudehl kept the game close in the first half with clutch three-point shots and strong play inside the paint. But, the Dinos went point for point with the Huskies for most of the first quarter and then forwards Henry Bekkering and Robbie Sihota stole the show as they were good from just about anywhere on the court.
The Huskies showed some life in the fourth quarter. Down 82-53, Glover drove the lane and put up a lay-up that missed but forward Troy Gottselig fought through a group of Dinos for a nice put back and two points. But, the Dinos just kept on shooting and after Sihota popped a three-point shot in the final half of the fourth quarter to put the Dinos up by thirty the Huskies were done.
Leading in points for the Dinos was Bekkering with 19, Tyler Fidler with 18 and Sihota with 14. The Huskies were led by Glover who had 18 points and Gottselig who put up 12.
The Huskies and the Dinos faceoff again Saturday night at the PAC, tip-off is at 7 p.m. MT.
