CALGARY – The University of Calgary finished their regular season home opener with a sweep against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 3-0 in Canada West women's volleyball action Saturday night. The Dinos won the match 25-16, 25-10, 25-18.

The Huskies jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set, throwing off the Dinos' rhythm with two stuff blocks early in the set. But the Dinos quickly settled in with two service aces from fifth year veteran Holly Harper, leading 8-6 at the first technical time-out.
From there onward, the Dinos were in full control of the match with contributions from several players, including kill leader and fourth year middle, Laura Spence (Calgary) with eight kills. Just behind Spence was fourth year Malaspina College transfer Laura Littlejohn with seven kills for the night.
The third set found the Huskies with their backs against the wall and leading 8-7 at the first technical break after aggressive serving. Saskatchewan stretched their margin to 11-9 forcing Calgary into a timeout. The Dinos broke the Huskies momentum with a seven point serving run from freshman middle Kelly Frittenburg, pulling the Dinos to lead 16-11 at the second technical break.
Calgary did not allow the Huskies to gain more momentum and closed out the set 25-18 with key kills from freshman Lindsey Doland.
Calgary had an impressive 33% kill efficiency as compared to 0% for the Huskies in the match.
Ashley Schurko and Shannon Usher were the top offensive players for Saskatchewan, posting four kills apiece.
The Dinos face-off against the CIS No. 2-ranked Trinity Western Spartans next Friday and Saturday in Langley, B.C.
